The recent 25th anniversary of the Dunblane tragedy prompted significant media coverage, as people remembered its innocent victims.
Sixteen primary one pupils and their teacher were killed that day, with many others injured. Following the tragedy, the EIS established the Gwen Mayor Trust – named after the teacher, and EIS member, who was killed while protecting her pupils.
The Gwen Mayor Trust continues to operate today, and offers funding support to primary school arts, sports and social projects across Scotland. Since the Trust was established, more than 300 primary school projects have benefited from its support.
Every primary school in Scotland is eligible to apply for funding from the Gwen Mayor Trust, and the EIS writes to all eligible schools each year inviting applications for funding.
