{"id":1810,"date":"2020-12-10T12:00:05","date_gmt":"2020-12-10T12:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sej.org.uk\/dec2020\/dec2020\/?p=1810"},"modified":"2020-12-10T12:42:27","modified_gmt":"2020-12-10T12:42:27","slug":"its-wrong-to-blame-student-for-rise-in-covid-cases-in-universities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sej.org.uk\/dec2020\/its-wrong-to-blame-student-for-rise-in-covid-cases-in-universities\/","title":{"rendered":"The Gwen Mayor Trust"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"intro-text\">The Gwen Mayor Trust was established by the EIS in memory of Gwen Mayor, the primary 1 teacher at Dunblane Primary School who was killed alongside 16 of her pupils in the 1996 tragedy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of the Trust is to advance education by providing financial support for projects in connection with the arts, culture, music or sport. Gwen Mayor\u2019s daughter and a former colleague from Dunblane Primary School are among the Trustees to the Fund. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All primary schools in Scotland are eligible for Gwen Mayor Trust Funding. Here we look back at three school projects that benefited from Gwen Mayor Trust funding last year, and also highlight the schools that have been awarded funding for this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aberlemno Primary School<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sej.org.uk\/dec2020\/dec2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/12\/GwenMayor3-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2355\" width=\"256\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sej.org.uk\/dec2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/12\/GwenMayor3-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sej.org.uk\/dec2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/12\/GwenMayor3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sej.org.uk\/dec2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/12\/GwenMayor3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sej.org.uk\/dec2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/12\/GwenMayor3.jpg 1100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 256px) 100vw, 256px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The grant has allowed us to develop a beautiful and calming library space where our children (and families after Covid) will be able to meet, explore a vast variety of books and support their health and wellbeing as well as literacy skills. They went on to participated in the Dundee and Angus Badminton Championships, achieving gold in the boys\u2019 doubles event. Many Thanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bruce Ollerenshaw, Class Teacher<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Schools that have been awarded funding for this year.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00a3991 Holycross Primary School, Croy The project aim is to develop the use of the outdoors at Holy Cross primary school in Croy near Kilsyth. Currently due to the financial climate it has been difficult to fund this project. The recent pandemic has highlighted the urgency of using the outdoors as part of a recovery curriculum.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00a3800 Lourdes Primary, Glasgow Encumbered with the \u2018no singing indoor\u2019 rule, the children of Lourdes have voted to have a signing choir. We have made links with Hamilton School of the Deaf to teach basic sign language to all classes and each class has chosen a carol to learn. If we are allowed, a school choir will accompany the signers.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00a3982 Our Lady of the Rosary Primary, Glasgow All classes will be involved in designing and painting a playground game relevant to their own stage. We have been recognised as a \u201cLearning for Sustainability\u201d school by Glasgow City Council, and so outdoor learning is a big part of our school life.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00a3600 St Brigid\u2019s Primary, Glasgow Through our PEF money, we have managed to purchase enough violins, violas and cellos for all our P1-P4 children. This is part of the Baby Strings project where all children learn to play an instrument as part of a string orchestra.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00a31,000 St Rose of Lima Primary, Glasgow In St Rose of Lima Primary we have an area just outside our classrooms which we would love to have the funds to develop into a really usable and much needed space.
