EIS General Secretary Larry Flanagan was recently elected as President of the European Trade Union Committee for Education (ETUCE).
The ETUCE is comprised of 132 education trade unions across 51 countries and represents over 11 million workers across the continent. The ETUCE is also the European structure of the global education trade union organisation, Education International (EI)
Commenting, Larry Flanagan said, “It is an honour to be elected as the President of the ETUCE and to be entrusted with representing all those working in education across Europe. As we continue to cope with the consequences of COVID and start to look to an education led recovery, it is essential that teacher trade unions work together to protect the best interests of educators and learners across Europe. I look forward to the challenge of supporting this important work.”
The role, which is unpaid, commenced from the end of the recent ETUCE conference, and runs for 4 years. Mr Flanagan will continue in his post as EIS General Secretary, while also serving as ETUCE President.
