Introducing the all-new EIS Professional Learning Podcast!
Designed for teachers and lecturers across Scotland, the EIS Professional Learning Podcast shares insights, strategies, and stories to support professional growth, foster collaboration, and inspire practice. Each episode is created to empower teachers and lecturers, and to strengthen education for learners, packaged in the form of short podcasts for easy access to professional learning online.
The very first episode, What Puts the P in PL, dives into the importance of self-directed Professional Learning. Listeners will hear various ways to engage in Professional Learning, and tips to ensure that Professional Learning works for you.
Hosted by Zoe McKeown, EIS PL coordinator, this episode features conversations with:
- Nova Lauder-Scott, a teaching fellow at the Strathclyde Institute of Education at the University of Strathclyde. Nova’s career history spans 25 years in primary education; she now works in Higher Education, teaching on the Educational Leadership course at the University of Strathclyde.
- Mairi Green, a primary school teacher and EIS Learning Rep. Mairi is a strong advocate for professional learning, and also works part of her week seconded to her local authority as a professional learning development officer.
Menopause and Menstrual Health at Work

Earlier this year, the EIS published refreshed guidance on Menopause and Menstrual Health at Work. For many women, menopause and menstrual health can have a negative impact on their health and wellbeing and research has shown that many people who are menstruating and experiencing menopause at work feel isolated and alone.
The guidance provides suggestions for steps that can be taken to proactively foster more inclusive workplaces for workers who experience menopause and menstrual health.
It is hoped this guidance will support the negotiation of workplace policies; help build supportive workplaces; and contribute to creating a society in which no one experiences direct or indirect discrimination as a result of menopause or menstrual health.
The EIS guidance on menopause and menstrual health is available on the EIS website.
