New Fellows Reply

This year’s reply from the new Fellows of the Institute (FEIS) was delivered by Jordan Daly and Liam Stevenson, co-founders of Time for Inclusive Education (TIE).

Addressing AGM, Liam said, “The relationship between TIE and the EIS is something that we cherish, and something that I hope will continue long into the future. Today feels extra special to be standing here receiving an honorary degree. It is incredible that Scotland’s largest, and the world’s oldest, teaching union believes in me.”

And Jordan added, “This award means the world to me, and it means the world because of what it represents. It represents the trust of the profession for which I have enormous respect. With the support of teachers and the EIS over the past ten years, we have started to shift the culture to ensure support for all of our young people.”

Equality Fringe Event

The Equality fringe entitled, Let’s change the story, looked at disinformation. The EIS has for some time been concerned with a rise in disinformed and prejudicial narratives within society, and educational establishments.

These harmful stories have real life impacts on our members, our learners, and our wider communities. How do we change the story? This EIS Equality Fringe considered how we can communicate in ways that resonate – to foster trust and empathy, and carry the potential for positive change.

Organising Fringe Event

The Organising Fringe: Health & Safety and ASN. The EIS has been advocating throughout the SU4QE campaign for increased resourcing for ASN within Scottish schools. This fringe considered ways that Branches and Local Associations could use a health & safety approach to organise and campaign for increased ASN resources locally.
