The EIS is to prioritise the use of alternative social media accounts, in light of continuing growing concerns over the policies of larger social media platforms such as Twitter/X and Facebook.
National EIS social media accounts are managed by EIS HQ and, in recent months, the Communications department has been exploring alternative social media platforms to help keep members informed and to promote the work of the EIS.
As a result, the EIS recently established a presence on Bluesky, and intends to build its presence on this platform as a key communications channel.
Members are encouraged to follow the EIS on Bluesky. The EIS approach has been informed by recent discussions at the TUC, as many other unions are also grappling with the issue of keeping members informed on social media, while being concerned about the politics and policy direction of major platforms such as Facebook and Twitter/X.
Following a report and discussion at EIS Executive, it was agreed to prioritise use of alternative social media, and to encourage members to follow the EIS on new platforms, such as Bluesky, which will become the future focus of EIS social media communications.
