It was a good day for the EIS at this year’s TUC Communications Awards, held recently at Congress House in London.
In the ‘Best Union Journal’ category, the online edition of the SEJ won commendation, with the judges saying, “This fully online version lets members choose their preferred delivery format. It works well across different devices, with easily navigable features and news pages. Stories are well signposted with thumbnails, with expanded content easily reachable.”
The EIS also won praise for its media work in last year’s high-profile campaign in support of members at Hutchesons’ Grammar School. The judges noted, “The EIS’s effective media work built a high profile for their strike at a well-known independent school, which helped members retain pension rights and gain union recognition. The union achieved wide press coverage for key moments of the dispute, winning over parents and local people.”
Commenting, EIS Head of Communications Brian Cooper said, “Congratulations to all involved in achieving these successes at the TUC Awards. The EIS Comms department works with others across the union to further our campaigning work, and this recognition from the TUC highlights the EIS’s success in promoting the priorities of our members to a wide range of audiences.”
