Welcome to SEJ Digital
Welcome to the first edition of the new online Scottish Educational Journal. We hope that the new format will enhance the SEJ’s online presence, and offer a new medium for EIS news, views and debate.
Putting this edition together has been a challenge. As a result of the COVID-19 lockdown, EIS employees have been working remotely for the past 7 weeks which, of course, can make collaborative working considerably more difficult.
Added to this, much of the content of a normal edition of the SEJ relates to regular EIS activity such as Committee and Council meetings, Professional Learning conferences and other EIS events. With the lockdown leading to these types of events being cancelled, this has had an inevitable impact on the content of the SEJ.
We have opted to produce a digital only SEJ for this edition. The logistical difficulties of printing and distributing a printed magazine during the lockdown, coupled with a desire to avoid unnecessary pressure on the Royal Mail, made the digital option a logical choice for this edition.
We will continue to produce our new digital edition in the future, and will also return to producing the printed SEJ when the circumstances allow.
This edition is, inevitably, dominated by the issue of the COVID-19 crisis and the difficulties it has created for us all. The closure of schools, colleges and universities and the move to home learning, much of it online, has created many challenges for teachers, learners and their families. We explore these issues in depth in this new digital edition of the SEJ.
